School improvement parameters (Loose/Tight leadership)


Advisory program (Loose): Students who are consistently connected to and known by at least one adult in the building have a greater chance of graduating.
• Implement by 2011-12, sooner if staff feels ready
• Groups of 10-15 students remain with an advisor for four years
• Any curriculum used must be developed ahead of time so there is no teacher prep.
• Time should meet the need, not the need meet the time
• Career Pathways/Kuder curriculum?

Intervention period (Loose): Interventions need to be as immediate as possible to get extra assistance, to complete work, make-up assessments, and enrichment.
• Intervention period could/should be connected.

Teaming: (Tight)
• Grade 9: next year
• Grade 10: 2011-12, next year if staff agrees
• Grades 11-12: 2011-12, less structured than grades 9 and 10. How much it ties into teams to be determined Multiple Pathways focus
• Rooms reassigned to best support teaming: next year

Heterogeneity (Tight): Within three years staff will be versed in differentiation and classes will be heterogeneous to the fullest extent possible while maintaining appropriate rigor for all students.
